Aspen Travel supporting St Ann’s Hospice
St Ann’s Hospice is charity supporting patients and families with life-limiting illnesses in Greater Manchester at their three sites in Heald Green, Little Hulton and the Neil Cliffe Centre in Wythenshawe hospital. The trusted support can help many different people in many different ways, some go to St Ann’s Hospice at the end of their life, whilst others seek help for their symptoms and enjoy complimentary therapies.
Only a third of the funding comes from the NHS so, as a charity, the hospice must raise a minimum of £20,000 a DAY to keep their doors open for those who need support through difficult times.
Val’s story
Many people are surprised to learn that St Ann’s Hospice have a Rehabilitation Team at the hospice, working with patients at various stages of their illness to ensure they have the best possible quality of life.
Included in that is a specialist Lymphoedema Team, who are trained to be able to help patients with swelling which may occur as a result of their illness or treatment, and patients whose primary condition is lymphoedema.
One of the people theyve helped is Val Basnett, here she shares her story.
The lymphoedema outpatient service have looked after me since about 1995. I was desperate, depressed and felt totally isolated with my condition with nowhere to go for expert help, until I happened upon the lymphoedema clinic at St Anns. I was quickly reassured that things could be done.
All these years later and Im still being supported by St Anns. You have no idea what a lifeline this clinic is to people like me, truly. The complexity of my condition after treatment for cancer has served as a constant reminder of that awful time of uncertainty, and left me with several issues, of which lymphoedema in both legs is just one.
So, you’re wondering why is this important, what does it have to do with holidays? Let us explain, this month, we are supporting St Ann’s Hospice to help their fundraising efforts and improve the wellbeing of those who rely on the treatments & services of the hospice. All we ask is a small donation of your choice all of which will go as proceeds to St Ann’s Hospice
