Claire’s Moroccan Adventure with Wendy Wu Tours

My Moroccan Adventure with Wendy Wu Tours

When I booked Morocco with Wendy Wu Tours, I expected camels, souks, and couscous. What I didn’t expect was the sheer variety—one day wandering ancient Roman ruins, the next speeding across the country on a high-speed train, or sitting cross-legged listening to Sufi musicians in a hidden riad.

Here’s my day-by-day breakdown of a trip that gave me far more than I could ever have managed on my own.

Day 1 – Arriving in Marrakech ✈️

Flying out of Manchester in the afternoon, I landed in Marrakech by teatime. Meeting my Wendy Wu rep and driver at the airport made life so much easier—no taxi haggling or getting lost on arrival.

We checked into the Grand Plaza Marrakech, a large centrally located hotel just outside the Medina. That evening, I joined my group for a buffet dinner—a simple but welcome start and a chance to meet my fellow travelers.

💡 Travel tip: Arriving in Morocco can feel overwhelming. Having a rep meet you straight off the plane takes away the stress.

Day 2 – Marrakech’s Gardens, Crafts & Chaos 🌿🐍

After breakfast, we visited the famous Majorelle Gardens—all bold royal blue walls, bright yellow pots, and towering cacti.

From there, we explored the Dar El Bacha Museum and watched traditional tradesmen—bread makers, woodworkers—still practicing their crafts.

Lunch was a two-course rooftop meal at Café Arabe, with sweeping city views.

The afternoon was pure sensory overload in Djemaa el-Fna square: snake charmers, stalls piled high with spices, and constant noise and color.

Dinner was at Dar Zellij, a beautifully restored riad lit by candlelight.

✨ Wendy Wu highlight: Eating at Dar Zellij isn’t just dinner—it’s an exclusive handpicked experience.

Day 3 – Casablanca & Rabat 🕌

We drove to Casablanca to see the breathtaking Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest in the world.

Lunch was fish and chips by the sea at Bouregreg Marina before continuing to Rabat, where we explored the Kasbah of the Udayas and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V.

We stayed overnight at the Flower Town Hotel (a boutique 4-star), with dinner back at Dar Zellij.

Day 4 – Tangier & the Blue City of Chefchaouen 💙

In Rabat, we boarded the Al Boraq high-speed train—modern, fast, and comfortable—to Tangier.

A city tour took us to the meeting point of the Atlantic and Mediterranean, the Caves of Hercules, and the winding old town.

Lunch was rooftop seafood at La Vue Tanger.

Then came the real gem: Chefchaouen. Every street is painted blue, the atmosphere is magical, and it’s even more photogenic than Instagram suggests.

That evening, we experienced a private Sufi music ceremony in a riad before dinner on a rooftop under the stars.

✨ Wendy Wu highlight: That intimate Sufi performance isn’t something you’d stumble across on your own—it’s arranged exclusively for Wendy Wu travelers.

Day 5 – Roman Ruins & Arrival in Fes 🏛️

We stopped at Moulay Idriss for a traditional Moroccan lunch, then explored the Roman ruins of Volubilis, where mosaics and columns stand as they did 2,000 years ago.

By evening we arrived in Fes, staying at the modern Barceló Fes Medina Hotel. Dinner was here, with the rest of the evening free.

Day 6 – Cooking & Pottery in Fes 🍲🎨

This was one of the most hands-on days.

We began at the Palais Medina restaurant, then plunged into the Fes Medina (540 acres of alleys and stalls) to shop for fresh ingredients. Along the way, we sampled daal and herbal tea.

Back at the kitchen, we prepared our own three-course Moroccan lunch.

The afternoon was spent at a pottery workshop, where we tried the wheel, made our own mosaic coaster, and browsed a treasure trove of ceramics.

Dinner was at Palais Medina, complete with a magician for entertainment.

💡 Travel tip: Fes Medina is easy to get lost in. With Wendy Wu, you don’t just survive it—you dive in and actually enjoy it.

Day 7 – Back to Marrakech & a Final Feast 🔥💃

A five-hour drive brought us back to Marrakech. After a quick swim and rest at the hotel, it was time for a grand finale at Dar Soukkar.

This wasn’t just dinner. There were dancers, fire breathers, and live music—a full-on Moroccan spectacle.

Day 8 – Farewell Morocco 🇲🇦

After one last hotel breakfast, it was time to fly home to the UK.

Final Thoughts

Morocco is vibrant, chaotic, and endlessly photogenic. But it can also be overwhelming without support. Traveling with Wendy Wu Tours meant:

  • No stress: everything was arranged, from transfers to restaurant bookings.
  • Exclusive access: private Sufi music, curated restaurants, cooking classes, pottery workshops.
  • Seamless travel: from high-speed trains to boutique hotels, the logistics were flawless.

My top three highlights:

  1. The blue streets of Chefchaouen.
  2. Cooking and shopping in the Fes Medina.
  3. The private Sufi music ceremony.
