Overview

In Malaysia, influences from across Asia and Europe have come together to create multicultural customs, fashion, architecture and cuisine. After a short break in Singapore, travel the length of the Malay Peninsula to Penang via Malacca, the Cameron Highlands and Kuala Lumpur.

Itinerary

Day 1: Fly to Singapore

Day 2: Singapore

Arrive and transfer to the Park Hotel Clarke Quay for 2 nights. Located by the Singapore river, the Clarke Quay area encompasses a number of restored buildings housing restaurants, shops and an MRT station. (N)

Day 3: Singapore

Spend a day exploring the city with a private guide. Discover diverse neighbourhoods such as Chinatown and Little India, a range of museums, the striking Gardens by the Bay nature park and second world war history at the Kranji War Memorial. End your day at one of many numerous dining options, then stop by the Long Bar at the legendary Raffles hotels for a Singapore Sling cocktail. (B)

Day 4: Malacca

Drive over the Malaysian border to Malacca, once home to a powerful sultanate and later colonised by Portuguese, Dutch and British empires. Consequently the city has a rich cultural heritage, evident in the unique mix of architectural styles. Stay at the Casa del Rio for 2 nights, a boutique property set on the banks of the Melaka river. Day 5: Malacca

Enjoy an escorted city tour to discover the city’s history, visiting the former Portuguese fortress of Porta de Santiago, learn about Chinese-Malay culture at the Baba Nyonya Museum, and take a stroll down Jonker Street, known for its galleries, antique shops and Dutch colonial-era buildings. (B)

Day 6: Kuala Lumpur

Drive to Kuala Lumpur. Stay 2 nights at the
Renaissance Kuala Lumpur. Afternoon tour
of Batu caves. Traditional Malay dinner at
Bijan restaurant. (B, D)

Day 7: Kuala Lumpur

Morning city tour, visiting the National
Monument, Sultan Abdul Samad government
buildings, Independence Square, the Royal
Selangor Club and Istana Negara (the
National Palace). (B)

Days 8-9: The Cameron Highlands

Visit the Cameron Highlands, a picturesque area of winding trails with mountain peaks, waterfalls and jungle, favoured by the British during the colonial era for their cool climate. Explore the highlands visiting the region’s rose gardens, tea plantations and butterfly farms. Stay 2 nights at The Lakehouse, a country house style property overlooking Sultan Abu Bakar Lake. (B)

Days 10-11: Penang

Drive to Penang, the oldest British settlement
in Malaysia. Stay at the Lone Pine Hotel
for 2 nights. Visit Fort Cornwallis, Wat
Chayamangkalaram Thai temple and the
Chinese clanhouse of Khoo Kongsi. (B)

Days 12-13: Fly home

Transfer to Penang airport for a flight to Kuala Lumpur, then connect for your flight home. (B)
