Dhigali brings a modern design to a wonderfully remote part of the Maldives. One of the Maldives’s newer resorts, Dhigali sits in the remote Raa Atoll. It can be reached by a short domestic flight and boat ride from Mal airport, but we recommend a scenic seaplane journey of just 45 minutes. Excellent hospitality and cool modern design features are highlights here, but in this less-developed atoll you can also gain a real sense of local culture. Theres a house reef in swimming distance and a lagoon for watersports, plus a stunning sandbank at the tip of the island. Dining is innovative and authentic, with the style and atmosphere of each restaurant reflecting the cuisine. Theres a particular focus on fresh Asian flavours, including at the signature restaurant, Battuta, which serves dishes from North Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Capers is the main restaurant, and there’s also the Caf, all-day dining at Jade, and freshly grilled meats and fish at Faru. At sunset, make your way to the upper level of Haali (the sunset bar) with a cocktail in hand. Rooms have a clean-lined and neutral dcor, with warm tones of browns and creams, modern furnishings and plush natural fabrics. The vast choice here includes Beach Bungalows that are just steps from the shore, Beach Villas with Pool, overwater Water Villas that sit on stilts close to the colourful house reef, and Lagoon Villas with Pool that have views across the calm lagoon.

The resort runs trips to nearby snorkelling sites including Hanifaru Bay, where you are likely to find manta rays and whale sharks. These run between June and November, and there are also organised boat trips to local islands*. They cost extra, but theyre well worth it to explore this beautiful atoll. Tried and tested If youve got a picky eater or a budding chef, head to Jade restaurant its open all day and children can get creative and make their own pizzas. And when it comes to getting around, bear in mind you can use the resorts golf buggies if youve got little ones who tire easily. The sleeping arrangements A mixture of suites, villas and bungalows circle their way around the island, with a few different options for families. Deluxe Beach Bungalows and Water Villas sleep two adults and one child, so theyre ideal for small families. Other options, like the Beach Villas, sleep two adults and two children, and you can choose one with a private plunge pool overlooking the ocean. To really push the boat out, book a Lagoon Villa with a pool. Perched on stilts out in the water, they have steps that lead straight down into the ocean. Just bear in mind theres a minimum age of 12 for children staying in overwater rooms. Sustainable featuresDhigali has a new water bottling plant to reduce its single-use plastics. The introduction of the water bottling plant is an important element in the resorts eco-friendly endeavours and commitment to the protection of environment in its day-to-day operations.
