Overview

Guyana offers magnificent natural treasures, and its rivers, jungles and savannas teem with wildlife, including jaguars and abundant bird varieties, as well as rare flora. The highlands are home to the world’s tallest single-drop cascade, the mighty Kaieteur Falls. This is a non-exclusive small group tour (max 10 people) operating on set departure dates. It is possible to travel privately at a supplement.

Itinerary

Day 1: Georgetown

Fly to Georgetown, via the Caribbean. Stay at Cara Lodge for 2 nights. * Due to changeable flight schedules, it may be necessary to add an extra day to the itinerary and overnight en-route in Barbados or Port of Spain (Trinidad). (N)

Day 2: Georgetown

Visit Kaieteur Falls by light aircraft. (B)

Day 3: Iwokrama

Fly to the interior and transfer to Iwokrama River Lodge for 2 nights. (B, L, D)

Day 4: Iwokrama

Early morning birding boat trip on the Essequibo river. Hike up Turtle Mountain for views over the forest canopy. Afternoon excursion to Kurupukari Falls to see the Amerindian petroglyphs and visit a local village. (B, L, D)

Day 5: Atta

Wildlife walk along the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway and search for elusive jaguars. 2-night stay at Atta Rainforest Lodge. (B, L, D)

Day 6: Atta Rainforest

Take birding walks in the forest around the lodge or on the Canopy Walkway. (B, L, D)

Day 7: Surama

Morning excursion to look for cock-of-the-rock birds. See village life in Surama and stay at the Surama Eco Lodge for 2 nights. (B, L, D)

Day 8: Surama

Early morning birding walk, then climb Surama Mountain for views over the savanna. This afternoon, take a canoe trip along the Burro Burro river. (B, L, D)

Day 9: Rupununi

Continue through the grasslands towards the foothills of the Pakaraima mountains and the Rupununi savanna. Stay 1 night at Rock View Lodge. (B, L, D)

Day 10: Karanambu

Early morning birding walk and watch the sun rise revealing spectacular views over the savanna and villages. Travel by land and river to Karanambu Ranch, home of the McTurk family. The late Diane McTurk was well known for her work with rehabilitating orphaned giant river otters to the wild. Stay for 2 nights. (B, L, D)

Day 11: Karanambu

Explore the flooded forest, fish in Simoni pond and enjoy a rum punch under the stars. (B, L, D)

Day 12: Caiman House

Search for giant anteaters and wild giant river otters. Transfer to Caiman House, home to black caimans. Evening river excursion. (B, L, D)

Day 13: Georgetown

Early morning excursions. Fly back to Georgetown and take a city tour. Stay overnight at Cara Lodge. Enjoy a Guyanese fusion dinner at the Backyard Cafe. (B, L, D)

Day 14: Fly to London

Fly to London, via the Caribbean or USA. (B)

Day 15: London

Arrive in London. (N)
