OverviewThis self-drive itinerary visits some of the most remarkable cultural attractions on mainland Greece. Begin in Athens and continue to visit the archaeological sites of Epidaurus, Delphi and Olympia before continuing to the Meteora monasteries of Kalambaka, perched on immense monolithic pillars. ItineraryDay 1: Fly to AthensFly to Athens and transfer to the Amalia Hotel (or similar) for 1 night. (N) Day 2: Epidaurus Mycenae NafplioCollect your hire car (based on group B car rental). Morning drive to the ancient theatre of Epidaurus, which is renowned for its exceptional acoustics, via the Corinth Canal. Continue to Mycenae, the seat of King Agamemnon. Explore the ruined city and its excellent museum. Stay overnight at the Amalia Nafplio (or similar). (B) Day 3: OlympiaToday, depart for Olympia, the birthplace of the ancient Olympic Games, through the beautiful Day 4: DelphiDrive through the plains of Ilia and Achaia towards Delphi, located on the slopes of Mount Parnassus. Visit the Sanctuary of Apollo, the Treasury of the Athenians and the Delphi Museum, which houses valuable pieces of art such as the renowned bronze statue of a charioteer. Stay for 1 night at the Amalia Hotel (or similar). (B) Day 5: KalambakaDrive to Kalambaka, passing through picturesque the villages and towns of central Greece. (B) Day 6: Thermopylae AthensDrive to Athens via Thermopylae to view the monument to Leonidas and the bravery of 300 Spartans at the Battle of Thermopylae.
