Overview

This superb fly-safari focuses on two deluxe properties in south eastern Madagascar that provide access to an incredible range of activities, allowing you to get up close to both Madagascar’s wildlife and culture. Along the way, look out for ring-tailed and sportive lemurs, chameleons, owls, geckos, flamingoes and the flying fox (Madagascar’s largest bat). Finish in the beautiful sandy bay of Manafiafy where the forests and mangroves come right down to the sea.

Itinerary

Day 1: Fly to Antananarivo via Paris

Overnight flight to Antananarivo, via Paris.
Transfer to Lokanga Boutique Hotel for a 2-night
stay. (N)

Day 2: Antananarivo

Morning city tour in a vintage, open-top car.
Afternoon at leisure. Special chefs dinner this
evening. (B, D)

Day 3: Fly to Ifotaka Community Forest

Fly to Mandrare River Camp and stay 4 nights.
Afternoon at leisure. Evening wildlife walk in the
Forest of Zenavo, a prehistoric spiny forest. (B, L, D)

Day 4: Ifotaka Community Forest

Morning walk to the Sacred Gallery Forest in
search of ring-tailed lemurs and Verreauxs
sifakas. Afternoon at leisure. Evening walk
through the sacred spiny forest filled with the
ancestral tombs of the local Antandroy tribe.
Finish with sunset drinks on the Mandrare river

Days 5-6: Ifotaka Community Forest

Early morning walk in the spiny forest to look
for endemic birds. After breakfast, visit the local
market (Thursdays and Saturdays) or the local
village to meet the Antandroy tribe. Afternoon
at leisure. Evening sunset drinks served amid the
baobab trees with music and dance performances
by local villagers. Full-day trip the next day to the
stunning Lac Anony, home to greater flamingoes
and a variety of salt water birds. Walk along the
lake shore to a beautiful picnic spot, scale the
70-foot-high sand dunes for incredible views and
go for a swim in the lake. (B, L, D)

Days 7-8: Fly to Fort Dauphin Manafiafy

Early visit to the local market or the spiny forest.
Then take a short scheduled charter flight to Fort
Dauphin and have lunch in a local restaurant.
Drive to Manafiafy Beach & Rainforest Lodge for
a 4-night stay. Night walk in the coastal rainforest
to spot some of the five species and three
sub-species of lemur, over 80 bird species and
an abundance of geckos and chameleons. Next
morning visit the Antanosy community. Afternoon
at leisure. Evening exploration of the mangroves
by motorboat to spot endemic birds. (B, L, D)

Days 9-10: Manafiafy

Early morning sunrise walk where you may see redcollared
lemurs foraging for food. The rest of the
day is at leisure. Late afternoon walk in the nearby
community forest to see Madagascars largest
bat, the flying fox. Following morning at leisure.
Humpback whale watching and deep sea fishing
are available at an extra cost (Jun Oct). Afternoon
visit to Manafiafy village with its traditional
wooden houses and pirogues lining the beachfront.
End your day with drinks at sunset overlooking
Manafiafy bay from a rocky outcrop. (B, L, D)

Day 11: Fort Dauphin Fly to Antananarivo

Drive back to Fort Dauphin. Fly to Antananarivo
by scheduled charter flight. Transfer to Le Royal
Palissandre (or similar) for 1 night. (B, L, D)

Day 12: Antananarivo

Morning tour of Ambohimanga, one of the 12
sacred hills of Antananarivo. En route back to the
hotel visit La Digue handicraft market. Afternoon
at leisure. Day room at Le Royal Palissandre. (B, L, D)

Day 13: Fly home via Paris

Very early flight home, via Paris. (N)
