Itinerary
Day 1: UK to Funchal
Fly to Funchal and transfer to your hotel. Meet your fellow travelers at a welcome drink this evening.
Day 2: Funchal
Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Funchal. Visit the bustling market, where you can browse colorful stalls selling flowers, fruit, vegetables, and fish. Explore the Botanical Gardens with over 2,000 plant species, then visit an embroidery factory. The day concludes with a Madeira wine tasting at a local lodge.
Day 3: Funchal
Today is free for leisure. Alternatively, join an optional levada walk, a spectacular hike along Madeira’s historic water channels. Walk through an emerald green valley with views of charming villages and vibrant flora.
Day 4: East Island Tour
Visit the village of Camacha, famous for its willow craft, and enjoy breathtaking views from Pico do Arieiro, the island’s third-highest peak. Stop at the trout hatchery in Ribeiro Frio, and then enjoy lunch in Santana, a picturesque village known for its thatched triangular houses. On the way back to Funchal, enjoy stunning views from Portela and pass through Machico, the island’s first capital.
Day 5: Eira do Serrado & Monte
After breakfast, head to Pico dos Barcelos for panoramic views of Funchal. Then, travel to Eira do Serrado for stunning views of Curral das Freiras (Nuns Valley). The tour continues to the hamlet of Monte, home to the Church of Our Lady of Monte and the beautiful Parque Municipal do Monte.
Day 6: West Coast Tour
Enjoy a day at leisure or join an optional tour of Madeira’s west coast. Visit the fishing village of Câmara de Lobos, then head to Cabo Girão, the world’s second-highest sea cliff. Continue to Porto Moniz and Paúl da Serra before descending into valleys covered by the Laurisilva Forest.
Day 7: Funchal
Today is free for you to explore at your own pace. Alternatively, you can join an optional whale and dolphin-watching cruise.
Day 8: Funchal to UK
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
