Itinerary

Day 1: UK to Naples

Fly to Naples and transfer to the picturesque town of Vico Equense on the Sorrento Peninsula. Your hotel offers stunning views over the Bay of Naples, with Mount Vesuvius dominating the skyline. Your Tour Lecturer will introduce you to the archaeological treasures that await.

Day 2: Pozzuoli, Baia & Cumae

Begin your journey at Pozzuoli, where you’ll walk beneath the grand Roman amphitheatre through an intricate network of underground tunnels once used by gladiators. Continue to the Archaeological Park of Terme Romane in Baia, where ancient Roman ruins lie on a hillside overlooking the sea. Your final stop is Cumae, an ancient Greek colony known for the Cave of Sibyl and the remains of the Temple of Jupiter.

Day 3: Pompeii – Full-Day Tour

Step back in time as you explore the remarkably preserved ruins of Pompeii. Stroll along its ancient streets, lined with villas adorned with frescoes, vibrant mosaics, and public baths. Your expert guide will bring the city’s tragic yet fascinating history to life, from its grand amphitheatre to the everyday items left behind when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD.

Day 4: Amalfi Coast & Paestum

Take a breathtaking drive along the Amalfi Coast, passing through Positano and Ravello, with stunning sea views along the way. Arrive in Paestum, an ancient Greek settlement home to three magnificent Doric temples: the temples of Ceres, Neptune, and Hera. Explore the on-site museum, which houses fascinating artefacts, including painted tomb frescoes and sculptures.

Day 5: Oplontis & Herculaneum

Explore Herculaneum, a city preserved even better than Pompeii due to the unique effects of Vesuvius’ eruption. Wander through the luxurious homes, thermal baths, and wooden structures that still stand. Then, visit the Villa Poppaea in Oplontis, an opulent Roman villa believed to have belonged to Emperor Nero’s wife, featuring well-preserved frescoes that look almost freshly painted.

Day 6: Capri – Optional Excursion

Enjoy a free day or take an optional boat trip to the glamorous island of Capri. Stroll through the charming village streets, take an open-top taxi to Anacapri, and visit Villa San Michele, the former home of Swedish doctor and philanthropist Axel Munthe, known for its spectacular views and fragrant gardens.

Day 7: Vesuvius & Naples – Optional Excursion

Choose to embark on an unforgettable journey to the summit of Mount Vesuvius, mainland Europe’s only active volcano. From nearly 1,300 metres above the Bay of Naples, take in panoramic views before descending into the heart of Naples. Visit the Museum of National Antiquities, where treasures excavated from Pompeii and Herculaneum—including mosaics, frescoes, and everyday artifacts—are displayed.

Day 8: Naples to UK

Transfer to Naples airport for your return flight to the UK, concluding your journey through Italy’s ancient wonders.
