Itinerary
Day 1: Fly to Pisa Florence
Fly to Pisa airport. Collect your hire car (based
on group C car rental) and drive to Florence.
Stay 3 nights at the Hotel Il Salviatino (or
similar), a 15th-century villa with a magical
hillside setting overlooking the terracotta
rooftops of Florence. (N)
Days 2-3: Florence
Two full days at leisure to explore Florence
and its rich legacy of Renaissance art and
architecture, as well as its gourmet cuisine.
Highlights include the Uffizi Gallery, the
Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and Ponte
Vecchio bridge. (B)
Day 4: San Gimignano Montalcino
Morning drive to Montalcino via the medieval
town of San Gimignano, encircled by 13thcentury
walls and famous for its 14 towers. Stay
4 nights at Castello Banfi – Il Borgo (or similar),
a medieval fortress which has been converted
into a sumptuous Renaissance villa. (B)
Days 5-6: Pievescola
Two further days at leisure to enjoy the
beautiful Tuscan countryside. The hilltop town
of Siena is within easy reach. This fortified
town is best known for the grand Piazza del
Campo, home to the famous Palio di Siena.
The vineyards of Chianti are also close by, with
many cellar doors to enjoy wine tasting. (B)
Day 7: Pisa
Drive north to Pisa and stay at the Hotel
Bonanno (or similar) for 1 night. Afternoon at
leisure to explore a city that offers much more
than a leaning tower; steeped in history, it is home to one of the oldest centres of learning
in Europe, and has many well-preserved
Romanesque buildings and Renaissance
piazzas. (B)
Day 8: Fly home
Drive to Pisa airport and drop off your hire car.
