Velassarus glistening beach and bright turquoise lagoon create a serious wow factor on arrival. The resort has a slightly younger vibe and is ideal for honeymooners and couples. Vela, the main restaurant, is the perfect place to enjoy dishes from the interactive buffet and live cooking stations. But its definitely worth trying the la carte offerings which include the popular Teppanyaki with its idyllic spot over the lagoon and serving Japanese cuisine with a creative twist, and Sand, where you can enjoy dishes inspired by the Indian Ocean on candlelit tables dotted along the beach.

There are also two fabulous bars. Fen Bar is cool and minimalistic with mood lighting and chilled music, and the place to relax with a cocktail and shisha. For drinks in a gorgeous setting, head to Chill Bar at the waters edge and grab yourself one of the chic day beds overlooking the ocean. Other facilities include a recommended watersports centre and snorkelling can be done directly from the beach.

The beach rooms at Velassaru have some of the biggest and loveliest indoor/outdoor bathrooms. Deluxe Bungalows are individual single-storey buildings a few metres from the water, with a raised sleeping area. Sleek Beach Villas are thatched cottages facing the beach, with little extras such as a wine chiller. Theres also a choice of villas with pools and beautiful Water Villas on stilts over the ocean.

Vela is the main restaurant set amidst the islands lush foliage. It offers international buffet dining, live cooking stations and signature specialties with a twist.

One of the most idyllic spots for dining is atTeppanyaki, which sits over the bright turquoise lagoon. Here youll find contemporary Japanese cuisine with a creative twist, with a menu of sushi, salads and premium dishes from the land, sea and garden.

AtTurquoise theres a focus on Continental and Asian flavours. The atmosphere is relaxed, in an intimate setting under the palms, with a menu of light bites, salads, burgers and pizzas alongside meat and fish dishes.

Etesian offers Latin American-inspired served in a modern restaurant setting.

For elegant dining under the stars,Sand has candlelit tables scattered on the beach and private dining pavilions. Indulge in beautifully prepared Pan-Indian Ocean specialties or choose from the chefs signature menu.

The beachfrontFen Baris cool and funky, with dark wood, mood lighting, low music and luxurious daybeds. Outdoors, there are beanbags and hammocks for lounging. Sample creative cocktail recipes prepared by the highly skilled bar team. TheChill Bar boasts a gorgeous setting and ultra-comfy lounging, with daybeds and huge tables on a deck at the waters edge. There are canopies for shade in the heat of the day, and tapas and expertly mixed cocktails will see you through the evening.

The Spa at Velassaru Maldives has 10 overwater treatment rooms, where signature treatments are enriched with indigenous ingredients. The Velassaru Ritual is the classic experience a choice of three to four treatments from a menu including a lagoon coral scrub, coconut oil massage and island radiance facial. Theres also an overwater yoga pavilion.

Diving
