Yvonnes trip aboard Hurtigrutens MS Kong Harald Cruise

What a great way to spend a weekend in Norway, fly to Bergen and cruise for a few nights up the coast of this beautiful country, with its stunning scenery and if you are really lucky, and in the right months of course, the most fantastic phenomenon of the Northern Lights.

Having been out of action for a few months this ship has been revamped to give a modern Scandinavian feel, without losing any of the Hurtigruten charm. Relax in the modern and comfortable panoramic lounge and when the nights draw in, then the bar opens and you can put your feet up with your favourite tipple.

During the day you can still take part in the many excursions available to prebook, or watch the world go by from the cosy coffee shop on the top deck, grab a coffee or ice cream, pastry or sandwich, thats if you have the room after the most appealing buffet breakfast, and lunch, if you have taken the full board option. Remember to keep room though for dinner, where if you chose, you have can fine dine in the a la carte restaurant, or the newly acquired bistro. Not to worry though, the main restaurant is still open for business. With all the glorious Norwegian dishes to try..

Depending on the time of year, keep a fleece handy in case those evasive lights decide to put on a performance, and be ready to run on deck for an amazing show. Or there again you have the midnight sun to keep you going June and July, now theres an experience, glowing skies at night time.

When you eventually want to take time out and go to bed the cabins are still as comfortable as they always were. Twin berths on the lower decks and the newly refurbished doubles on the upper decks. So cosy after those long and busy days.
