Overview

This epic 19-day expedition cruise offers a unique opportunity to follow in the footsteps of great explorers as we attempt to cross the Northwest Passage. Starting from Reykjavk, Iceland, we will sail through Greenland and onward to Cambridge Bay, Canada, navigating the icy channels and stunning landscapes along the way.


Following a Legendary Route:

  • Departing from Reykjavk, we will sail to Greenland, where we will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ilulissat Icefjord.
  • Our journey will then take us through the Northwest Passage, retracing the routes of historic explorers, until we reach Cambridge Bay.
  • Along the way, we will explore famous waterways such as Prince Christian Sound, Baffin Bay, and the Davis Strait before concluding our voyage in Edmonton, Canada.

Extraordinary Scenery and Wildlife:

  • Throughout the cruise, passengers will have the opportunity to witness breathtaking landscapes and encounter a variety of Arctic wildlife.
  • Keep an eye out for polar bears, musk oxen, caribou, and ringed seals in their natural habitat.

Itinerary

Cruise Overview: Emulate great explorers as we attempt to cross the Northwest Passage

Day 1: Cosmopolitan Reykjavk

  • Explore Reykjavk, the worlds northernmost capital, known for its modern culture and stunning natural surroundings.
  • Optional activities include visiting the Blue Lagoon hot springs or admiring the view from the Hallgrmskirkja church.
  • Board MS Fram at Reykjavk Harbor, meet the Expedition Team, and settle into your cabin.

Day 2-3: Crossing the Denmark Strait

  • Sail across the Denmark Strait, following the route of Viking explorer Erik the Red.
  • Relax and enjoy the onboard facilities while learning about wildlife protocols and participating in onboard activities.

Day 4: Prince Christian Sund

  • Explore Prince Christian Sound, known for its breathtaking scenery and abundant wildlife.
  • Keep an eye out for icebergs, seals, and various bird species, including glaucous gulls and black guillemots.

Day 5: Explore Kvanefjord

  • Discover the glacial beauty of Kvanefjord in Greenland’s west coast.
  • Take in the stunning landscapes and explore remote areas on a nature walk or boat excursion.

Day 6: Nuuk, Greenlands Capital

  • Explore Nuuk, Greenlands capital, with its mix of old and new buildings.
  • Visit attractions such as the Hans Egede House and Nuuk Cathedral, or join a nature walk through Paradise Valley.

Day 7: Spectacular Sisimiut

  • Explore Sisimiut, Greenlands second city, known for its ancient traditions and history.
  • Learn about Saqqaq artifacts and explore the area on foot, taking in the stunning Arctic scenery.

Day 8: UNESCO-listed Ilulissat

  • Visit Ilulissat in Disko Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its towering icebergs.
  • Marvel at the ever-changing ice landscape and capture the beauty with the help of the ships photographer.

Day 9-10: Crossing the Labrador Sea

  • Continue the journey to Canada across the Labrador Sea, entering the Davis Strait.
  • Participate in onboard lectures and Citizen Science projects while keeping an eye out for wildlife.

Day 11-17: The Northwest Passage

  • Embark on a historical journey through the Northwest Passage, stopping at various sites linked to early exploration history.
  • Explore Inuit communities and encounter Arctic wildlife such as polar bears, whales, and seabirds.
  • Experience the pristine wilderness firsthand with small boat excursions and landings adapted to ice and weather conditions.

Day 18: Wildlife of Cambridge Bay

  • Disembark in Cambridge Bay, a wildlife-rich area known for Arctic char, musk oxen, and caribou.
  • Explore the town and its surroundings before taking an evening flight to Montral.

Day 19: Explore Edmonton
