Travel Guide for June
June is the month in which summer has officially started in the northern hemisphere so it’s time to explore the great outdoors. Canada is the perfect place to see in the sunshine with stunning lakes hidden among incredible mountain ranges and wildlife appearing at every corner. Our second suggestion is the take advantage of the British summertime, discover history like no other surrounding by rolls of beautiful country side and some stunning national parks.
Canada
Few other countries challenge Canada when it comes to natural beauty, adventure is at every corner in this vast yet consistent country. Dotted throughout Canada are some pretty special cities all with their own unique characteristics and charm to break up the wilderness you can experience in between your city breaks. Spot wildlife that Canada is famous for such as the mythical moose or grizzly bears as they all start appearing from their cold winter slumbers. Average temperatures range from 19 degrees during the day time in many of the major cities to around 15 degrees in places like Banff and the Mountain areas and dropping to around 5 degrees in the evening.
Vancouver
Starting on the eastern side of the country in the idyllic setting of Vancouver. Nestled in between the Pacific Ocean and the Coastal Mountain range it is a city like no other where you can spend the morning shopping in some of the best shopping districts in the world then end the day sliding down a slope at one of the surrounding ski resorts.
Previously voted the best place in the world to live you will understand why when you get here, mainly by the sense of the friendly locals in which make you feel very welcome in their city. Go on a culinary adventure with Vancouver’s ever-growing foodie scene or sail the Strait of Georgia and discover Vancouver Island one of the best spots in the world for whale watching.
Toronto
Moving to Canada’s east coast you will find the young and vibrant city of Toronto. Set on the shores of Lake Ontario, it is the perfect destination for a city break holiday being Canada’s cultural, financial and entertainment hub. Toronto is the largest city in Canada making it a focal point for all the best restaurants and entertainment spots in the Canadian market has to offer.
Shopping in Toronto is based around the Eaton Centre with trendy and high-end shops all in one place, Queen Street is for the more quirky designers making a holiday to Toronto a must for anybody seeking retail therapy. St Lawrence Market is a must for any foodies looking to a bite to eat with vendors and restaurant stalls setting up shop here for over 200 years, try the famous peameal bacon sandwich or some of the other street meats from Toronto.
Other Cities
Other cities worth visiting during your trip to Canada are, Ottawais the acting capital city and the historical and cultural spot of the state, Ontario. Home to some very important parts of Canada’s history with hugely interesting museums scattered around the city, if you are a bit of a culture vulture then Ottawa is the place for you.
Next up is one of Canada’s oldest and most charming citiy – Victoria. The capital of British Columbia, Victoria is only an hour and a half ferry ride from Vancouver and is known for it’s floating houses and shops. There are also some great spots for eating and drinking all along the waterfront while you catch the sunset.
Qubec City makes you feel like your back in Europe with its obvious French influence such as the cobbled streets and good Parisian-styled cafes and restaurants. Cruise along the Lawrence River as you admire the architecture of Canada’s oldest city and maybe even stay in some of the many luxurious hotels this city boasts.
Niagara Falls
Just under a two hours drive from Toronto, you can find one of the most popular tourist destinations on the planet and the most popular that Canada has to offer, Niagara Falls. Newlyweds and couples are among the many that flock to these dramatic waterfalls as they crash above your head from 200km high. Great Britain
There is nothing quite like a Great British summer, stunning countryside teamed up with a number of historical cities and some beautiful coastlines you are sure to be charmed by Great Britain and all it has to offer. June is seen to be the start of summer in Great Britain and spirits are lifted by longer days of sunlight and warmer temperatures seeing people flock to beer gardens and take in the scenery the locals take for granted during the winter months.
London
Starting with the capital city and one of the biggest tourist attractions in the world, London. It has something for everyone from the spectacular historic sights to the lively cultural scene a visit to London us always interesting and exciting. Stunning views of the city are waiting for you on top of the Shard with a glass of champagne as you look over the London skyline. Discover history like no other and visit some of the ageless landmarks scattered around the city, London Bridge connects the city and is a sight to behold. Wander through the many parks giving you an escape from the hustle and bustle such as St James Park or Hyde park simply beautiful places to be in the summer.
Discover the West End and take in one of the many world class theatre on offer here most nights. Experience the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace and admire the sheer size of the Queen’s humble abode. Drink the night away in the trendy Soho area, with live music on every corner your sure to find somewhere to dance. Or take in some retail therapy at the quirky Camden Market in which you will find market stalls selling everything you can imagine.
Other Cities
Beyond the capital you can find a number of cities in the UK all with their own unique charm and characteristics well worth a visit. Manchester located just a two hour train journey north from London is the second biggest tourist spot in the UK with its own charm and a great nightlife not to mention a certain football team with the iconic Old Trafford just a 10 minute journey outside the city centre. Surrounding areas of Manchester include the quaint county of Cheshire home to some stunning parks and villages such as Tatton Park in Knutsford and the old historic town of Chester.
Visit York a walled city dating back to the Roman times, the main attraction being the 13th century Gothic cathedral that sits in the centre of the city. The city walls create a walkway which is the best way to take in the impressive structure of a city. Also visit Liverpool set on the Irish Sea a lovely city with rich history and a great music scene thanks to The Beatles leaving their mark on the world and calling Liverpool their home.
More cities you simply have to experience come further a field, head up to Scotland to the major spots being Glasgow and Edinburgh. Discover a complete different history and culture at these two as you climb Arthurs Seat and look over the city below. Time your visit with the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where comic from near and far flock to the city for some of the best comedy in the world.
National Parks
If you fancy an escape from the city experience then fear not as the UK has a number of National Parks scattered up and down the country for you to explore. Head to Wales and discover Snowdonia National Park home of Mount Snowdon the highest peak in Wales which when climbed is the best way to take in the beauty of the surrounding park. Snowdonia comes highly recommended if you are a nature lover with so much to see from hidden lakes to long stretches of beach with quaint seaside villages providing accomodation and gorgeous restaurants perfect after a day of hiking or exploring.
Next up is the Lake District one of the most beautiful places in the country, so much so that it recently got UNESCO World Heritage status. Lake Windemere is located in northern England with the closest train station being Penrith (around 1.5 hours north of Manchester).
